very good albumFriday, May 13, 2005
I got in a bit of trouble and thrown out of school this year and my house too which was a bit of a shock to me. 2 nights before it happened I knew this album was dropping and picked it up. At first it made me feel like ''naaah, what the f...'' and didnt get played except for the first quick flick which I only found i liked one track but not really too much. But then as I packed my bags and had to leave to go up north to some far away city I kept a discman and a few CDs on me for the journey. After going through all the CDs to the point I was sick of them, I thought I would just put this one in. And sitting on the bus it just touched me and i really felt it, i just let it play all through and i just suddenly awoke to how good it really was. I was expecting something more hard like ''Dollaz & sense'' at first, but then it hit me and what quik was saying i was really feeling and it made an impact on me. This album was like my friend on a lonely journey into a new big city accross the country. It made me think about my lifestyle in many ways and opened my eyes to what I was actually thinking of the future, though I did not make a complete change it calmed me down lots. The production which I was not digging that much in the beginning had started to grow on me, and the lyrics and messages i was feeling completely. Quik has been a big inspiration for me and I have admired his work since day one. This again, is another classic from the top musician. I still preferred ''dollaz & sense'', but this has a very deep personal meaning for me as it strangely guided me through a very difficult stage of my life. Anyway, enough of my boring story lol. If you like Quik, which you should, or if you don't know him, BUY THIS NOW!!!. Click add to cart then fill in the rest lol. Tight album. Peace!
Very Laid BackSaturday, April 23, 2005
very laid back and funky album....The production is definately what stands out on the album---you're not gonna find much better beats....The lyrics lack a little, but they're pefect for the beats and the mood....
Overall dope album....I give it a 4.5

The king of Compton is as fonky as ever on his senior album. The fonky street sound remains with DJ quik still producing his own material. This time, he reunites with AMG, Hi-C, 2nd II None and also brings with him a few new friends including Mausberg(RIP), the lyrical street poet of Pamona Town Suga Free, R&B sensation El DeBarge and both of Long Beach's own, Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg.
The Rhythm-Al-Ism(Intro) was a perfect way to start off an album like this. It shows how Quik is starting to evolve as a lyrical genius while producing amazing beats. The beats don't stop there. Every beat has there own feel to it. Two that come in to mind are "Down Down Down" and "Speed" where he's joined by AMG in what seems to be a production dedication to his rock and roll influences. He also shows, once again, his love for reggae music in what became an instant smokers classic, "Bombudd II." Also on this are two of my personal favorite songs from Quik. "Medley For A "V"," where he's joined by AMG, 2nd II None, Hi-C, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and El Debarge, and "Get 2getha Again," where the production is at it's best. With a guitar riff that is unforgettable and a hook by El Debarge that just soaks in your mind, this truly showcases Quik's talent as a producer.
However, one of the most surprising songs on this album was probably "You'z A Ganxta," where Quik plays the big man and squashes the long time beef between him and his city rival, MC Eiht(CMW). Quik offers peace and opens the door to MC Eiht stating, "If you get your head together, maybe we can do a record." As a true Quik fan, this would be very surprising knowing that Quik, who grew up as a blood from Piru, would clash knowledge with Eiht, a crip from Tragnu Park, and hopefully make a good sounding record. Both styles of rapping are very different but still street and knowledgeable. I would love to hear this collaboration and hope that both artists would at least consider doing a song together. Nothing of this offer has ever been heard of after the offer was made in "Youz A Ganxta."
If you're just getting into Quik, this is a must have like any of his other albums. If you like to kick it with the squad and drink some brews and get the smokin, this is a definite. This CD is good for almost any mood, even love making. I highly recommend this CD to all you party people out there. Party up!

This cd is simply put "OFF DA HOOK!!!!" I cant believe I slept on this cd for so long. I think this is his second best album(Safe & sound being his best". Tha Quiksta comes with some smooth and funky tracks on this one. This is an album you can listen to all the way through, and just chill. My fav songs are:
We still party
So Many Wayz
You'z a gangsta
Medley for a "v"
Bombudd II
Like I said, the whole album is hella tight. These are the best songs on da album in my opinion. If you dont have this cd, get it right now. Well........go on

DJ Quik is a great producer, but this album does not show his skills as a rapper. NOT RECOMMENDED.
