Description
Rumors of TLC's impending breakup were especially worrying in light of this excellent disc, which was even more consistent in its way than 1994's CrazySexyCool. Great singing and the usual huge hooks--not to mention the smarts of songs such as "Unpretty" and "I'm Good at Being Bad"--made Fanmail one of R&B's most striking releases of the year. --Rickey Wright
Description
The jumpy, Timbaland-esque beats that kickstart the title track of Fanmail, TLC's long-awaited follow-up to 1994's zillion-selling CrazySexyCool, are a lot more impressively modern than the "computerized" voices that introduce several cuts. Most of the album's production is similarly up to date, displaying the trio's smoldering style to good effect. A few of these songs ("Silly Ho," "No Scrubs," "Unpretty") verge on the anthemic, while Babyface-helmed ballads such as "I Miss You So Much" and "Dear Lie" feel like they're running on automatic pilot. For the most part, though, Fanmail earns its status as a multiplatinum sure thing. --Rickey Wright

5 of 5 stars  TLC's 3rd Album Fanmail
Thursday, May 12, 2005
I remember this album when I was in the 6th grade. I fell in love with the song No Scrubs. I played this album constantly. This album is filled with tough grooves and melodic jams. This is their most personal album reflecting experiences and emotions they faced in the last few years. They also use the cutting edge approach to recognition in the world. This is their milestone in their career. TLC has really matured on this project. This album has been certified 6x Platinum. Remember, this was 1999.

3 of 5 stars  TLCs best album.

Why did CrazySexyCool sell 11 million copies and FanMail only 5 million? I think FanMail is so much better. There are less filler tracks and its more creative (TLC co-produced the album and came up with the concept). As a LaFace record, FanMail of course includes filler forgettable Sleepfest Edmunds tracks like Dear Lie and I Miss You So Much. Come On Down is anothe snoozer. The good side: Left Eye (Who i think is underrated as a rapper) appears a lot more than FanMail. The opening single Silly Ho is, in my opinion, much better than the played out No Scrubs. The beats are hot and if it was released today, it would still sound fresh. I think the hottest and most underrated single was Im Good At Being Bad. This is truly TLC at their best. Hardcore sexy lyrics. Left Eye makes her mark on this one definately. Other highlights include: My Life, If They Knew and Shout. If you sort of like TLC (my sister is a huge fan) and wanted more hip hop, this album is for you.

5 of 5 stars  An awesome follow up to CrazySexyCool
Wednesday, April 13, 2005
This group does what all others have tried to do and will try to do in the future - they are brilliant in this futuristic sounding CD that can be listened to from start to finish. Only problem is the Non-rap version of 'No Scrubs' - other that this this album is flawless, with songs ranging from the beautiful 'Dear Lie' and 'I miss you so much' to the sexy, heavy, sassy sounds of songs such as "I'm good at being bad' and 'Silly Ho'. Plus the feelgood "unpretty" is also on the album. #1 for 6 weeks in America - a hit everywhere else.

5 of 5 stars  perfect conclusion to the 1990's
Tuesday, March 08, 2005
alas the decade of good r&b/hip hop music had come to an end. Fanmail, Destiny's Child Writings on the Wall and Mariah Carey's Rainbow were all over the charts in 1999 and made you crave more from these artists in the future. Get this album. It may be a little more overproduced than crazysexycool, but the music is creative and innovative for its time, and no scrubs was hands down the jam of the year!
