Product Description
Hotel Costes 6
Description
Stéphane Pompougnac's Hôtel Costes series gets a boost on its sixth installment, mixing in a bit more grit with the pretty ambience and silky beats. Actually, "grit" isn’t quite accurate; Pompougnac’s musical choices still lean heavily toward the cool, classy lounge of Jean-Louis Costes’ famous Parisian hotel/club. But bits of urban groove and subdued jungle rhythms are present as well. Tosca’s druggy "Rolf Royce" (from Delhi9) mines a simple, slap-bass line like a Happy Mondays outtake, while Minus 8 makes a jazzy, beautiful mess out of "Snowblind." Unlike past efforts, Costes 6 gets better as it goes, wrapping with the d&b-meets-French-chanteuse clatter of "Un Monde Sans Frime." Like slightly uncouth, yet good-natured guests, these new Hôtel residents might not be as fashionable, but they’re still the best things about the joint. --Matthew Cooke

I'm just reviewing track 4, 'Surround me with your love'...
It is absolutely magnificant. For me this song alone would be the reason to buy the CD if I had the money. The beats, the tunes, the guitars Hmmmmmm!

5 of 5 stars  Another great Costes album!!!
Monday, December 06, 2004
Sensual, sophisticated, eclectic, relaxing and never boring! These are just a few of the qualities that "Costes 6" has to offer! I've been enjoying this album for over 4 months already, and I love it!!!

I've heard people complaining that Costes albums are becoming far too "commercial". Well, maybe, maybe not! But, I really don't mind as long as Costes continues to deliver clever, imaginative and immensely enjoyable albums! Pompougnac really has a sense of style when he chooses the music to mix in his Costes albums! And that's enough for me!

If you are looking for a great mix of music with lots of style and variety look no further, the Costes collection has it all!

"Costes 7" is out already!...I can't hardly wait to get it!

2 of 5 stars  Not even close
Tuesday, October 12, 2004
I have every single volume and love them all. However, this one was super disappointed with this last volume that I couldn't wait to receive. The CD Album aesthetics were very tasteful but I also (as another reviewer) fear that the production was more in tune with the appearance of the album rather than its contents and the song sequences do not blend into each other as well as they have in past albums. I however DO NOT recommend this album, unless you want it as part of your collection because you have all the other volumes. I only liked 2 songs on here. The rest was not as sophisticated as in past volumes.

5 of 5 stars  My second Costes CD -- Delivers on very high expectations
Wednesday, September 29, 2004
This is my second Costes CD. The first one blew me completely away and set very high standards for any other Costes CD or for any compilation CD anyway. My first CD was Costes: la Suite (a.k.a. Vol 2).

I must confess that at first I found Hôtel Costes 6 less compelling than la suite but after a couple of hearings it is very clear that the mix is very high quality and as elegant and upbeat as it can be.

Costes 6 delivers very good songs, mixed in almost perfect order, building a very nice momentum from beggining to end. A good symptom of how good the mix is how you will find yourself trying to build a playlist with Costes + any other music... only to find that you like Stéphane's mixes much more.

Costes 6 has great moments from the great mix of French music and oriental lyrics in "Metropolitan" to the great mellody on "Surround me with your Love" to the very well crafted Bossa Mix on "Morenito". Also recommended are Stigmato, Inc's "Reality Check" and Barbara Mendes "Got to be in Love".

Another great album in the Costes Series. Both Hôtel Costes 6 and La Suite are highly recommended if you want to get started into the Series or if you want to enjoy great lounge music.
