Product Description
On a Starry Night
Description
The party line on most Windham Hill products seems to be that it's either the greatest stuff since wave machines, or that it all sounds alike. On a Starry Night, with its collection of world songs and reputable artists such as Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, the Turtle Island String Quartet, and others, does lean toward a seamlessly understated, homogeneous quality that is broken only occasionally by Bobby McFerrin's piece and a couple of others. That said, there can hardly be a more mellow or sonorous album of kid's music anywhere. Starry Night could calm a nursery with no nurses; why, it could even soothe the pained yelps at the dog pound--and turn a freeway full of bumper-to-bumper sour pusses into pussycats. Effective? You've heard of mind control, haven't you? --Martin Keller

5 of 5 stars  Beautiful, Heart warming!

This is such a soothing CD. I recomend this to anyone who does or does not have a child to share it with. The songs have a deep spiritial sound to them. Bed time is always an emotional time for children and this CD is one that will relax you and your child as you snuggle together and listen to it. Please take time to listen to the samples for this CD.

5 of 5 stars  The best lullaby CD I've heard
Friday, February 04, 2005
I received this CD as a gift when I was expecting my son without even realizing what a treasure it is. My now 5 1/2 month old fights sleep generally, but visibally relaxes when he hears these soothing songs.

As an adult, I enjoy the variety of artists. These tunes do not grate on parental nerves like some "children's" music -- the whole family can enjoy this CD even after it's been in heavy rotation. I highly recommend it.

5 of 5 stars  Fantastic!

Along with all the "traditional" baby gifts, we were given this CD and it is by far the greastest of all the gifts! I find myself listening to it on my own as it rivals even the best relaxation CDs! It is a "must have" and I now give it to everyone I know who is expecting a baby!

5 of 5 stars  Lullabies everyone can enjoy
Thursday, December 09, 2004
Parents: If you have been looking for a lullaby album that doesn't make you insane, a lullaby album that *you* actually enjoy listening to, then On a Starry Night is your album! There are none of those high-pitched baby catching notes here, only soothing music.
Most songs are instrumentals. There is a wide variety of instruments used, no two songs are alike. The only song with words (in English) is the last song. But frankly, if you are not asleep by the time the last song plays, you might as well get out of bed for another hour or two, because if you haven't fallen asleep yet, it's not going to happen!

5 of 5 stars  Wonderful CD
Sunday, September 05, 2004
This cd is a collection of the most soothing, wonderful songs I've ever heard. We put this on shortly after my son was born in the hospital room we were in, and my sweet memories of the first moments with my son are connected with this cd, every time I play it I'm soon relaxed and calm, and my son loves it too!
