Friday, May 13, 2005

This is strictly a children's movie that will appeal to those age 3 and under. I was disappointed with this movie because most of the heart of the original characters seems to be missing. It's not a particularly bad movie, just not as good as what Disney's capable of. Tigger is a beloved character that deserved to have a movie, more so than Piglet ever did, but the story they came up with is very depressing for small children.

Tigger seems left out and decides to go on a search for a family member. Along the way, his friends try to cheer him up and help out. The message is about realizing what's important in life and loving your friends and what's in front of you. But the story is so sad as it goes along and there's not enough humor in it to make it better. Plus, the songs throughout the film are surprisingly bland. Small children will no doubt like this because of the characters and may not understand what's going on...but for those slightly older, it's not exactly a fun movie to sit through.

1 of 5 stars  Caused terrifying nightmares - in me!
Tuesday, April 12, 2005
I fell asleep watching this program on the Disney Channel with my young son, Hermes. I then had the most tortured, terrifying dream of a lifetime. I was frantically running through the woods in fear, at which time my pursuer, Winnie the Pooh, viciously attacked me, tearing my flesh from my body and devouring every bloody morsel of it with honey. In my dream, as I reached my final, desperate breath, I noticed Winnie, Tigger and Piglet covering each other in my blood for a pagan religious ceremony around a small campfire.

You couldn't pay me to allow this program played in my house again. However, my son loves the characters, so what can I do?

5 of 5 stars  A standout children's DVD

Sitting on the couch with my 2 year old son, I've become something of a connoisseur of children's movies at this point. To be blunt, most of the modern "Pooh" films from Disney are pretty much garbage. The Piglet and Roo movies are especially painful, and got tossed out after about 1/2 a viewing each. In both of those, the characters are just being yanked and shoved through the motions by a giant, souless marketing machine that is determined to squeeze yet more cash out of them, even if it has to kill them in the process.

This "Tigger Movie" is different though. Again and again I found that it moved me to tears, and the story, animation and writing all hit home, almost like they were created by people who actually cared deeply about what they were doing. So far, it's the only one of the modern Pooh films I've seen that captures much of the original Disney/A.A. Milne magic. My son loves it too.

5 of 5 stars  For all Pooh fans
Tuesday, November 25, 2003
I like this movie mostly because I have no problems with my son watching it, as with all Winnie the Pooh movies. It is a Pooh movie that doesn't have the five minute stories but one large story. In this movie, Rabbit suggests to Tigger to go find other Tiggers to bounce with and so Tigger is off to find his family tree, which must be the greatest tree in the hundred acre woods.

It is rather cute and the songs that go along with the movie are great. My son and I will dance to a couple of them. It is also fun to watch all of the Pooh friends try to dress up like Tigger and "do as Tiggers do." My son loves this movie! Even as an adult I enjoy sitting back and watching this film.

Cute story, a little humor, and kid-friendly... this movie is highly recommended.
