4 of 5 stars  Nice Sophomore Album
Saturday, April 09, 2005
If you liked 'The Sign', you'll like this one as it has all the same things that made 'The Sign' great. I love 'Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry' and 'Strange Ways'. 'Ravine' is haunting. Definitely worth buying if you like Ace of Base at all, even if you're a casual listener.

4 of 5 stars  Beautiful Life!
Tuesday, January 11, 2005
Ace of Base were still making great and radio friendly dance-pop when this album was released. Just like their previous album, this was a hit and included many good songs. Not far as many as "The Sign" but it had it's moments just the same. Dance music was still popular when this album was released, only a year later it Euro-dance was going downhill. The 3 first single's here "Beautiful Life" "Never Gonna say I'm Sorry" and "Lucky Love" were definite highlights here, they are all great and catchy floor fillers with the classic Ace of Base sound. This album includes 15 songs however. "Edge Of Heaven" and "Angel Eyes" are ballads. "Ravine" is midtempo. Many of the other songs are simular to what we're used too, happy dance but some are also going towards ABBA's pop sound and that is something that Ace of Base turned too later on, for good and bad. I think there are a bit too many songs here, not all are very good and it get's a bit repetitive after a while, However it got it's highlight and it's still a good album. 3,5 stars, I give it 4 here.

5 of 5 stars  beautiful work of art

I bought this CD in the middle of 7th grade back in 1996 because I absolutely loved Beautiful Life and I liked several other songs too in sound but didn't really appreciate them the way I do now that music in general has reached an all time low. The other day I pulled this CD out for old times sake and I discovered how beautiful and deep it really is, and I've come to the conclusion that Ace of Base proved themselves to be real musicians and not just another europop group(although I enjoyed the europop craze in the 90's)

5 of 5 stars  Their most varied effort
Thursday, July 01, 2004
This album was an impeccable follow up to an album as buoyant as "The Sign", and tends to be a tie with that one, as my favourite Ace of Base album.

Every song is special, and despite containing many ballads, it all holds together very well and retains a sense of beautiful melody, regardless of tempo or style. Plus, this time, the lead singers, Linn and Jenny, get to add some of their very own songs.

The uptempo numbers such as "Beautiful Life", "Just An Image", "Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry", and "Blooming 18" are all excellent songs, and such ballads as the mysterious "Edge of Heaven", the harrowing yet hopeful "Ravine", and the touching "Angel Eyes" add even more of a touch of special care to the mix.

This album represents the 90s at its best, yet sadly, has been overlooked by those who consider pleasurably poppy music to be lacking in intellectual substance, which this, most certainly does not.

Add this to your collection and you won't fail to enjoy it time and time again.

4 of 5 stars  Beautiful Life
Thursday, April 22, 2004
I admit I really hated Ace of Base when they first came out with "The Sign". I hated the songs that I heard on the radio. Funny how things change after the first album. The second I heard "Beautiful Life", I just found myself blown away. The song was a lot more catchier than anything from "The Sign". Plus it had a dancier beat. So I found myself getting "The Bridge" as a present for one Christmas. Much to my surprise, I loved the album. The lyrics are ridiculously cheesy and silly but the melodies and beats are too irresistable to resist. I found myself hopelessly addicted to songs like "Lucky Love" (loved the acoustic version much more than the radio version). Being a huge ABBA fan that I am, "The Bridge" reminded me some of my favorite ABBA songs. They all have that infectious hook that made me love ABBA's music to begin with. I had to take off one star because of the silly lyrics like "Blooming 18" and "Just 'N' Image" but this is pop music, it is expected to be silly and stupid. Although the ballads are good, I find myself preferring the more uptempo songs. My personal favorite songs (other than "Beautiful Life") are "My Deja Vu", "Lucky Love", and "Strange Ways". It is too bad that the American public didn't like "The Bridge" as much as I did. The music definitely deserved to have been heard on the airwaves.
