Some of the greatest songs sung by one the greatest singers ever!!!! One of the most sincere (and hearbreaking) songs is "Jesse." Also, listen to the "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" with a pair of headphones...you will think you are in the recording studio. This is one of my treasures.

All the essentialsWednesday, March 23, 2005
Roberta Flack had two monster American number one hits in 1972 with First time ever I saw your face (a cover of a song that Ewan MacColl wrote about his wife, Peggy Seeger) and Killing me softly with his song (a song inspired by a Don McLean concert). These two classics were somewhat less successful in Britain although Roberta made the UK top ten with Killing me softly.
Roberta also recorded some excellent duets with Donny Hathaway, most notably Where is the love and Back together again, but Donny committed suicide in 1979 so their musical partnership ended unexpectedly. Roberta eventually found another partner, Peabo Bryson, with whom she had a major international hit, Tonight I celebrate my love. It was actually her biggest British hit, peaking at number two.
Given the incredible success that Roberta had in 1972, it is perhaps surprising that she had only patchy success thereafter, but the best moments of her career are captured on this outstanding compilation, which contains all the Roberta Flack tracks that most people will ever want.

Love It!Thursday, February 10, 2005
Roberta Flack has voice as smooth as silk. To have every one of her hits on one CD is absolutely fabulous. I love to listen to this CD when I tidy up the my house during the weekend or when I have company. Her and Donnie Hathaway compliment each other so well. First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is my favorite song. I'll recommend this CD to everyone.
Love It!

5 stars is hardly enoughWednesday, December 08, 2004
Roberta Flack would earn a five on any album just for her voice alone. With such a rich, beautiful tone, you can only wonder why she isn't still the top selling artist she was in the 70's and 80's. After more than 30 years, I still love hearing Killing Me Softly on the radio, along with the great duets here with Peabo Bryson and Donny Hathaway. The haunting First Time leads off the album and there is never a letdown until you realize the CD is over; and it really seems to happen that fast. Of all the albums I have, this is the only one that I could rate a 5 with no hesitancy.

Beautiful songs, wonderful voice, horrible quality!Tuesday, November 02, 2004
This CD is a must-have! Roberta Flack's voice is beautiful, and never more so than on Killing Me Softly, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Oasis, Tonight I Celebrate My Love, Will You Still Love Me, So It Goes, and Set the Night to Music. This is one of those CDs where you put it on and realize that you like nearly ever song on it. The only reason I gave this CD 4 stars instead of 5 is because the sound quality is not very good at all. It certainly doesn't sound remastered, in fact when I play this disc on my CD player, I have to turn the volume up a lot just to hear the songs. But until they release a new, truly remastered version, you can't go wrong with this CD!
