Product Description
SONIC IMPACT 5066 15W PORTABLE DIGITAL AUDIO AMPLIFIER
Product Description
The first totally portable Class-T(TM) amplifier, the T-amp fits 30 watts of power into the palm of your hand. Based on a Class-T(TM) architecture, the T-amp is over 80% efficient, meaning you can get long play times even when running off standard alkaline batteries. Or, for more permanent multimedia applications, simply connect a 12V DC, 2000mA adaptor (not included). Despite the small size of the amplifier, the sound quality is truly outstanding and will satisfy even the most critical listener. Perfect for powering computer speakers, for compact dorm-room systems, or even for taking to the beach! 10 watts RMS x 2 max into 8 ohms, 15 watts RMS x 2 max into 4 ohms.

2 of 5 stars well what can you expect for $30?

Come ON people, do you seriously think this is little thing is better than a full fledged receiver or even a two hundred dollar minisystem? The reviewer who claimed that this sounds as good as an audiophile tube amp must be smoking something very interesting. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

The only reason to buy this is if you already have a pair of passive speakers lying around that you want to use for listening to your MP3 player through. As long as they are relatively small speakers with high impedance (8 ohms preferably) and decent sensitivity (90db and above) then this thing will kinda sorta work...just don't go over moderate volumes! Sound quality is about equal to that of an average boombox. Note that this alleged amplifier does not say if it's 15 watts TOTAL or 15 watts RMS. It sounds to my ears about equal to a 10 watts per channel boombox.

Otherwise if you are starting from scratch I'd recommend just buying a 2.0 or 2.1 self-powered computer speaker setup like the Logitech Z-2300 for just over a hundred bucks, whose ample power subwoofer will provide a much more satisfying sound, or if you're more into classical and jazz listening, a 2-driver self-powered speaker like the Klipsch ProMedia 2.0 would be great.

5 of 5 stars Wow- better than I had hoped.

This amp truely does have the smooth extended response of a high end amp. Very good with small speaker, much like a good tube amp.
Buy it.

5 of 5 stars Don't buy anything more expensive!

If you spend more on an amp than it costs for this little beauty, you've made a mistake! This little gem makes my higher -end Yamaha amps and Onkyo receiver sound bad. Crystal clear sonic reproduction without expensive equipment is now possible!

Just be sure that you have relatively efficient speakers and a good audio source...

5 of 5 stars AMAZING, GIANT, TUBE LIKE SOUND from little box
Monday, April 18, 2005
Yes, it's true. This small 30$ amp has an amazing sound, similar to a very expensive SET tube amp, when well run in (about 200 hours).
I hook it up to 5000 $ Prame speakers with 100 db efficiency, and they sound similar to an SET tube amp (I own a Decware SET preamp and amp costing $ 1600): the sound has plenty of dynamics (the single ended triode kind of dynamics at the first watt), the midrange presence of tube amps, the sweeteness, clarity and precision of SET tube amp in the treble, and a BIG soundstage, plus an authoritative bass response that is not mushy: you really here the detailed sound of a double bass, not just boom boom...
You can listen to it for hours and it never gets fatiguing, provided you have a good source, of course.
It sounds better than a well known US made $2200 2x50 watt per channel push pull tube amp on my high efficiency Prame speaker.
In fact I am selling it because this little box sounds better with my speakers...
The sonic impact is hooked up to a pair of Siltech pure silver HP cables costing $1500... But the interconnect is a cheap 3$ rca to mini plug cable...
I am still trying to figure which sound best of my Decware SET tube amp with preamp or the sonic impact. Both sound great, with lots a microdynamics, and I could live happily with any of them because they make the music really sound alive, effortless and clear as a bell.
They do sound different though, but very similar.
I have a group of tube fanatics coming home every week.
I had the sonic impact playing hidden behind my SET tube amp and preamp. Everybody said: "What have you done to your amp, it sounds different this time". They said "different", not "worse".
That means they could not tell the sound from a good tube amp + preamp combo costing about $ 1800 (Decware is the least expensive US made single ended triode tube amp).
When I showed them the sonic impact, they could not believe this was the amp that was really playing.
I did this trick to each of my friend that was coming home that day, each one believed that the tube amp was playing.
In my opinion, high end tube amp manufacturers have something to worry about now...

5 of 5 stars Believe what you read and hear!!!

After reading several on-line reviews, I purchased this amp for an outdoor wedding this upcoming summer. This amp completely defiles any human logic for the price. AMAZING!! I own an Bryston 3B SST amp and I have to say this amp had so much more detail in the stereo image, it boggles the mind. The depth and spatial imaging of this thing is ABSOLUTLY INCREDIBLE!! Not as "warm" sounding as the Bryston, but it doesn't have the any of the typical cheap transistor sound found in any off the shelf receiver under $1K at LEAST. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG!! TARGET is great retailer also. I ordered the unit on a Monday evening and the unit arrived UPS GROUND on WEDNESDAY!!
