4 of 5 stars  This is NOT ELECTRO, but ELECTROCLASH...
Friday, November 19, 2004
Just to clear up things, this compilation is not an ELECTRO compilation. This is an ELECTROCLASH compilation, and yes there is a difference... a HUGE difference. ELECTRO is that dirty analog sound with vocoders and the famed 808. Stuff by Soul Sonic Force, Kraftwerk, Advent. Simple, direct, and classic sounding. It's very distinct. ELECTROCLASH is a new movement which combines the old skool electro sound with new wave, punk, synthpop, and other assorted beats. The sound is more danceable, more 4/4 beat driven, and alot more 'fun'. I love ELECTRO, but I find many tracks are not dancefloor friendly. They sound great because they use alot of high and low frequencies, but not much good on the dancefloor (with the exception of some tracks). Electroclash answers the call of making ELECTRO dance friendly, but they had to merge other genres to get it dancefloor friendly, and what they came up with was electroCLASH. Hope this clears things up. If your looking for ELECTRO then DO NOT BUY THIS! Instead take a look at the STREET JAMS ELECTRIC FUNK series for that classic ELECTRO sound or ELECTRO BREAKDANCE series. Both have good selections, and many classics.

3 of 5 stars  Not entirely 'electro'
Tuesday, November 25, 2003
While all of the tracks on this comp could be called electronic, some of them do not, in my opinion, qualify as "electro" in the sense implied by the title. If you're looking strictly for the quintessence of electro - filthy analog lines, crisp 808 beats, and of course vocoders - you might want to consider another compilation. But if you prefer a hodgepodge of electro and synthpop, this isn't a bad choice.

5 of 5 stars  this is electrocash

this is really one of the better electro compilations doing the rounds, although the hype seems to be over before it ever really started. of course there are songs you might already have heard on other compilations such as ladytron, but the majority is relatively unknown material. that's not to say it's crap...the cover version of sabrina's 'boys' is hilariously funny with it's distorted vocals, heavy guitar riffs and dance beats. class!
it's also cool that this compilation features some original and remixes of 80's classics to make it clear that the electro sound is not really new but was being made some 20 years ago already.
all in all, a very interesting compilation if you like electronic dance music or wish you could be in 1982 forever.
enjoy!
