janet at her sexiestSaturday, April 09, 2005
after coming out with the dance-charged but meaningful and political control and rhythm nation, janet had a musical makeover and a makeover in her image. She was more sexy, alluring, happy, and confident and the music and her music videos from this CD reflect that beautifully. The album starts with the morning interlude and the first single that's the way love goes that reminds you of the break of dawn on a beautiful morning with it's r&b/hip hop ballad uptempo groove. Then you want this is a song about janet teasing her lover and being charged with energy. If is one of the best masterpieces of janet's career with it's strings and wild grooves and singing raps, and yet so naughty, this song establishes her credibility as a diverse musical artist. This Time is a song about telling off a lover who cheated on her and further solidifys her credibility as a diverse musical artist, displayed with the opera vocals and broadway-tinged instruments. Throb is a europop inspired dance song made up of jazzy horns and sexual moans and its full of happy and sexual energy. What'll I Do is a rock piece with janet belting out strong vocals. Funky Big Band is a jazzy r&b and hip hop song with cute pianos and strong vocals but gets a little bit repetitive and drags on though still a nice song showing her musical diversity. New Agenda brings on the feminist side of janet showing pride in her African American roots and singing of oppression, her strongest vocals on the CD. Because of Love is a happy bouncy song of janet singing about a love, some may call the lyrics corny but it's such a happy song that you can't help but bounce to, there's a peacefulness about it. Again is a beautiful ballad that is one of janet's best with it's catchy and melodic piano hook and shimmering melody. Where Are You Now is a timeless classic ballad about janet wondering about a past lover, her vocals are so smooth and layered and you can feel the emotions. The Body that loves you is a filler song but is still soothing in it's own way. Anytime Anyplace is a very sexy ballad with a jazzy and r&b feel to it, the chorus has to be one of janet's best and the vocals are calm and smooth. Whoops Now is the 60's inspired bonus track on the album that has a vibe to it that makes you think of being silly and jumpy while having a good time, reflecting how close janet is with her dancers throughout the time of this album. Definitely recommended to fans of janet jackson and r&b fans looking for something with more substance than the material out there today. One look at janet may make one think janet is like every other r&b artist but janet dispells that perception on this musically diverse record that became her best selling album and is still on heavy rotation on my CD player.

this is THE BEST album that janet has ever made. i loooove all of the songs. the ones that truly stand out are "throb, if, where are you now, anytime anyplace, and because of love." i love the message that she sends in her song "new agenda." it talks about the struggle of being an african-american in today's society and how it's time for a change on how african-americans are treated. the song "throb" is the most sexual song on the cd, but it has a great dance beat. i love how she adds the saxophone and her moaning sounds. everyone should buy this album, especially hardcore janet fans like myself.

Janet's First Sexual Revolution Starts With This Classic...Thursday, December 23, 2004
Rhythm Nation 1814 was a classic. The album had tons of #1 hits that stormed the charts: "Alright", "Escapade", "Love Will Never Do (Without You)", the title track, "Rhythm Nation", and "Come Back To Me". Yes, it was the watershed album for the woman who was in control. Then, four years passed and Janet left A&M records. 1993 came along, and she finally made the sensual album of her career that puzzled most of her fans. Rhythm Nation was, by all means, a tough act to follow. Janet., the album, was the black version of Madonna's Erotica because half of the album was about "sex". With the album, Janet., Janet Jackson covered every element of love. She also dipped into a variety of musical genres: pop, rock, R&B/Soul, jazz, even opera. The opening, "That's The Way Love Goes" is a lushy, mid-tempo R&B/Soul ballad with jazzy hooks. It's a classic in every way. "If" is a rock/funk, club jam. It has rough and explosive hooks. "This Time" is where Jan is getting into classical music and she is mixing it with opera. It's a sassy, break-up song. "Throb" is one of the oddest songs on this record. It's a euro-dance jam with Jan getting down and dirty than ever. The moans, the groans, and the saying, "Won't you make me wet?", will melt you every time you hear it. "What'll I Do" is a cheesy pop/country/rock anthem with Jan singing like another Sheryl Crow or Jewel. It's a small filler track. "Funky Big Band" is a repetitive, funk-drenched, big-band swing-styled track that sounds kind of out of place and odd. "New Agenda" sounds like a Rhythm Nation outtake or Public Emeny track. It's a song on racism in America. "Because Of Love" reminded me of the old Janet back in the 80's, in control. It's an outgoing and fun dance song. What can you possibly say about "Again"? "Again" is the most beautiful, tearjerking ballad I have ever heard an artist perform. It's a big winner. "Where Are You Now" is a soulful, yet, upbeat ballad that displays Jan's amazing and limited vocal range. "The Body That Loves You" is another lushy ballad that is a little too atmospheric, but it is classy. "Anytime, Anyplace" is where Jan, unmistakenly, reaches her "sexual revolution" peak, in my opinion. This horny, slow-driven ballad with the soulful finger-snaps, is a classic. The production is flawless. The hidden track, "Whoops Now" is a funny, 60's Motown-like track with Jan playing around and missing out on a fun vacation with her friends. Raunchy, classy, and innovative- that's how I would personally describe the album, Janet., in words. Jan really grew up on this one, trying to become an independent woman getting too far into the revolution of sex. Rhythm Nation's "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" set the standard for her maturity and love life, but with the release of Janet., she pushed her love life just a little bit to the over-reaching limit. There were two disappointments I had with the album: the filler and the pointless interludes. There were a lot of filler that just wasted part of the space of this album like "New Agenda" and "What'll I Do". The interludes were just odd. They ranged from two seconds to a minute, and they were just little sound bits. Overall, the album, Janet. is probably Janet's most sensual, mature, and ambitious record with her mastering everything she can do and just covering the elements of love. The album does feel, essentially like a 75-minute double album. She really outdid herself on Janet., no wonder its her most best-selling album ever. A-

Janet Jackson's MasterpieceTuesday, November 02, 2004
I am the worlds biggest Janet Jackson Fan and love all her albums but if asked which was best, without hesitation I would say this one. Unlike the expolsive openings of CONTROL and RHYTHM NATION this album calmly draws you in with 'Morning' before moving into the soulful 'Thats the way love goes'. A relaxing change from the raw funk and dance of 80's Janet. Heavy Dance tracks such as 'IF' and 'Because of love' add the dance edge, whilst ballads such as 'Again' and 'Anytime, anyplace' create a good mood balance.
Highlights include:
Thats the way love goes
If
This Time
Throb
Because of love
Again
Where are you now
The body that loves you
Anytime, anyplace
BUY IT, BUY IT NOW!!!
Also good: 'Janet.Remixed', 'Rhthym Nation','Velvet Rope', 'All For You', 'Damita Jo', 'Control'

Amazing Sexual JourneySunday, October 17, 2004
Janet Jackson's "Janet" is an amazing album. It basically takes you through her sex life and love life in many different ways and in every style of music imaginable.
That's The Way Love Goes (4/5) - A mid-tempo R&B/Pop song, this was her biggest hit. It is nice and soothing, and is the perfect song to begin the album. It repeats itself a lot at the beginning though.
You Want This (4/5) - A nice song, it seems a bit dull, but there's nothing really wrong with it.
If (5/5) - This is an amazing mix of Rock, Rap and R&B. Janet raps a lot of the song, the guitar lines are amazing and the hook is one of the most memorable I've ever heard. Also, the video, which is set in some sort of strange Cirque d'Soleil is spectacular. The best song on the album.
This Time (5/5) - This song shows Janet mixing Classical, Opera and Pop. It has some beautiful opera vocals, mixed with Janet's voice at just the right time.
Throb (4.5/5) - This song reminds me a lot of Madonna. A hardcore euro-dance song. Janet does a great job at this, the song is simple, but very listenable.
What'll I Do (4/5) - This song is odd, and sounds a bit out of place for Janet, but I'm glad she tried it. It's a country/rock song and for this being so far away from what she usually does, she did it well.
Funky Big Band (4.5/5) - Yeah, it's funky big band. A nice song, goes on a bit too long though.
New Agenda (5/5) - Along with the best rapper of all time, Chuck D, Janet makes a statement about racism. A great song with a great message.
Because Of Love (4/5) - This was another one of her singles, it did well, but I don't think it should have been. It sounds too much like You Want This to me anyways.
Again (5/5) - Another hit, her voice sounds angelic and the song can make you cry. A wonderful ballad.
The Body That Loves You (4/5) - A slow jam that just has a traditional R&B sound, it definitely lets you know that the album is winding down, this is a nice one to fall asleep to.
Any Time, Any Place (5/5) - Another slow one, with more of a jazzy feel, I've fallen asleep to it several times, but it is still a great song.
Spoken Parts (5/5) - I'm just going to combine these because I think they are actually noteworthy. Janet targets many things in her short sentences in between songs. Love, Sex, Racism, Anger etc. They sound really good and she sounds very sexual yet at the same time she knows exactly what she's talking about. They make a nice addition.
Overall, an excellent album with a lot of great material.
