Enrique
Description
Months before this major-label debut appeared, Enrique Iglesias scored a radio hit with the upbeat "Bailamos," thanks to its inclusion on the soundtrack of Wild Wild West. Enrique's bid to firmly place the son of Julio in the mainstream pop firmament leads off with another midtempo dance-pop airwaves candidate, "Rhythm Divine." The track is typical of the rest that follow: highly wrought emotion recalled in a bed of glossy production that uses Latin syncopation as a reminder of the singer's roots while resolutely aiming for chart supremacy next to the likes of Celine Dion. Filled with pop romanticism--a duet with Whitney Houston, a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Sad Eyes," and proclamations on the order of "I've seen the sun make love to the sea"--Enrique is easy enough on the ears, and looks like a surefire hit. --Rickey Wright

3 of 5 stars  A guilty pleasure
Monday, November 29, 2004
I am by no means a fan of pop music, let alone that short lived Latin movement that was kickstarted by that former Menudo hack Ricky Martin. The only Latin artist I did like out of that brief music trend was Enrique Iglesias. His first english album "Enrique" is a major guilty pleasure of mine. The music is irresistably infectious. I especially love the song "Be With You" which compelled me to purchase the cd not too long after the song was unleashed on to the public. It is a good mix of europop and latin music. I also love the equally catchy "Rhythm Divine". It is has a good dance beat. What I didn't care for was Enrique's butchering of the Bruce Springsteen song "Sad Eyes" and his duet with Whitney Houston on "Could I Have This Kiss Forever?". Turning "Sad Eyes" into some sappy, Latin/pop ballad was not a great idea. I simply did not like "Could I Have This Kiss Forever?". My favorite ballads however I Have Always Loved You", and "I'm Your Man". Those ballads did remind me of Enrique's famous father Julio Iglesias. They had that same romantic yearnings in the lyrics and melodies. In my personal opinion, I thought it was unncessary to include three spanish versions of three of the songs. I thought it would have been better to just have the spanish version of "Rhythm Divine" and skipped out on the spanish versions of "Sad Eyes" and "I'm Your Man". Total filler. "Enrique" is not perfect but it certainly isn't awful by all means. Whenever I am in the mood for cheesy pop music, I will throw in this cd into my stereo.

5 of 5 stars  ENRIQUE'S FOURTH / MUSIC IN ENGLISH WITH LATINO FLAVOR !!!
Thursday, November 18, 2004
Enrique's crossover cd to the English language is extremely good full of catchy music that would really make u feel it. His best song out of this cd is the internationally known #2 Be With You, of course, with a great latin touch. In fact although most of this cd is in English, Enrique puts his personal touch to those songs with the Spanish guitars in the beats and Spanish words between the lyrics. Let's not forget the collaboration he did with Whitney Houston in which they blend their voices smoothly as if romancing each other. Overall, i'd say it's the best debut crossover from any latin artist since it was a true success. (unlike thalia, paulina rubio, etc.) This cd is really worth buying not just for the artist, but for it being a great production of Spanish/American music.

5 of 5 stars  This is a great cd

This CD is really great I listen to it all the time and would definatley recommend it. The lyrics to the songs are beautifully written and are really passionate. My particular fave is the "Could I have this kiss forever" sang with Whitney Huston. It is a powerful song which is really touching. I also like "Rhythm Divne" and "Be with you" which are really catchy and very passionate.

4 of 5 stars  His best album
Tuesday, June 15, 2004
I like Enrique Iglesias'album. Very smooth and breezy pop. I like the Mark Taylor/Brian Rawling songs that dominate the album and their rumbling sounds. Be With You sounds a little like Cher's own Believe, but Enrique tries to be different. I really like Sad Eyes--there's no doubt that Bruce Springteen is his idol, because he really pulls it off in the rock direction of this song. While I like Bailamos (and I hated it when William Hung screwed up that song by singing it), it's no contest to the rest of the album and very smartly done songs. The duet he did with Whitney Houston sounded fabulous--they blended well together. This is his best album--his later ones are no contest to this.

Enrique, Enrique...you never fail to disappoint your fans. For such a young artist, one would expect you to only get better, but judging by two CD's that I now own, I don't see how that could be...You're the best! I will definitely own "all" albums of this talented singer.
