First rate action thriller!Friday, April 15, 2005
In the spirit of full disclosure I should state that Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson are two of my favorite actors. They are not only wonderful at their craft, but they are very cool people.
That said, I must say that I REALLY like this movie. Geena Davis plays a woman who in spite of years of amnesia has carved out a happy life in a small town as a teacher. She has a delightful young daughter and a kind and loving boyfriend. Still, she wants to know who she was in her past and has hired a rather low rent private investigator ( Samuel L. Jackson ).
After eight years, bits and pieces of her former self begin to resurface and her private eye finally develops some information that may be helpful in her quest. When these two characters hook up ( professionally ) the excitement begins. As the action heats up, more and more of Davis's old self come to the fore and it becomes stunningly obvious that her previous career could not have been more different than that of an elementary school teacher.
It's no easy task to have two characters with a distant virtually non existent relationship to one of profound friendship within the framework of a two hour film, but director Renny Harlin has skillfully worked with these two gifted actors and done just that. This bond is forged through increasingly violent and spectacular scenes that are masterfully choreographed.
Elements of this films story line are positively eerie given the tragedy of 9/ 11 and the events that have followed. The very worst sort of rumors that surfaced in the wake of that horrific day are given a credible voice in this film. I'm not saying that I ( or anyone else ) should believe these paranoid fables, but in the context of the film, there is a degree of believability.
The supporting cast is uniformly first rate. Craig Bierko's villain with a friendly, boy next door demeanor is memorable. David Morse brings a great deal of authority to his limited screen time as does the almost ubiquitous Brian Cox. But the film's weight rests on the shoulders of Davis and Jackson. Their characters must have real substance or else the whole film would collapse. At the time of the movie's release critics weren't terribly kind. Folks, they were wrong. This one of those rare films that seem to get better with every viewing. There is an enormous amount of talent at work in The Long Kiss Goodnight. Sit back, let film do the driving, and enjoy.

"Repulsive"?---NOT!!!!Tuesday, April 12, 2005
OK This is one of my favorite action movies, and I find it hard to see how that reviewer found it "repulsive". I remember waking up in the middle of the night and flipping channels and finding this movie. I had already missed the beginning, but it drew me right in and I ended up watching the rest of it. The next morning I was online trying to find it because I had no idea what the name was. I found it today on Amazon and the price cannot be beat! If you haven't seen this yet, give it a chance-Geena Davis is terrific!
CHEFS DO THAT!Tuesday, March 22, 2005
This is a very interesting movie,
a bit unrealistic at times, but
still very good. Gina Davis, really

alot of action in this movie, you
will deffinetly not get bored!

I sock them in the jaw and yell, "pop goes the weasel."Friday, March 18, 2005
Samantha Caine is a local schoolteacher who is involved in her daughters PTA and appears to be an ideal mom to her 8-year-old daughter Caitlin. Samantha suffers from amnesia. When she awoke from her amnesia she was two months pregnant and on her own. In the eight years since she has developed into an ideal mother and housewife. One evening she crashes her car and receives a bump on her head. This ignites the slow process of remembering whom she used to be, Charly Baltimore. Mitch (Jackson) discovers that Baltimore is alive and wishes to help her discover her identity, for a slight fee. As Samantha remembers more and more of her previous life, she becomes deadlier and more resourceful. Mitch quickly becomes her sidekick, and Charly proceeds to kill everything.

Renny Harlin (Exorcist: The Beginning, Driven, Deep Blue Sea, Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2, Cutthroat Island, and A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) directs The Long Kiss Goodnight. I can honestly say The Long Kiss Goodnight is my favorite of Harlin's movies. I also liked Die Hard 2 and Cutthroat Island. The character transformation of Davis was done very well. Also, Jackson and Davis displayed a strong on screen chemistry. This is Harlin's action movie roller coaster ride.
"Do you want me to stick it in my pants and shot my damn d_ck off?"
"Now you're a sharp shooter?"
The Long Kiss Goodnight is filled with nonstop action. It is extremely fast paced, and a little over the top at times. It did remind me a lot of Bourne Identity. Especially the way the story plays out. Obviously The Long Kiss Goodnight is a funnier movie, with constant one-line jabs between Davis and Jackson, but overall, similar movies. The call at the end to the president may have been a little much.
"We jumped out of a building!!!"
"Yes. That was exciting. Tomorrow we go to the zoo."
The Long Kiss Goodnight is a must have in your DVD collection. The story is strait line, sometimes even unimaginative, but not bad. The action is often and intense, and does not lack for creativity. Sometimes the action is over done, but too much macaroni and cheese is better then none at all. Extremely entertaining, and very good for what it is. The Long Kiss Goodnight is along the lines of a Die Hard movie.

Her name is Samantha Cain and she's only 8 years old....Sunday, January 16, 2005
At least, that's all she remembers. She looks in the mirror and tries to guess how old she is. She's got a lot of scars.
She emerged on a beach 8 years ago. The docs say she has amnesia.
She's been searching for her past for years. Now, she's gotten down to the cheap private investigators....
What an opening! The movie doesn't let you down from there, either. It's pretty much non-stop action as soon as someone recognizes 'Samantha Cain.'
Davis is amazing and her 'odd-couple' partnership with Jackson is just perfect. This is one I'm glad to own and could watch again and again!
