5 of 5 stars  Fun in the ESL class
Monday, January 17, 2005
Wow what a great book. I use it for teaching my ESL children's classes. It is great in small groups of low level students. First one to show me where the crab is gets a sticker! The pictures are just wonderful. I wish Heather Amery would make a speed slap card game based on some of the pages.

5 of 5 stars  my kids' favourite book
Tuesday, November 02, 2004
This book almost drove me crazy when my son was tiny. We were big on reading to him but whenever we allowed him his choice, he ALWAYS chose this book. So often that we began to call it the Oh No book. As in "Oh no! Not the Thousand Words Book again".

But we had a great time with the book. We spent hours and hours and hours talking about what was depicted in each two-page spread. The kid who spilled the drink. The cat on the cupboard. It's 13 years later and I still remember. My daughter loved it too.

We got the french version of the same series when we registered our kids in french-immesion nursery school - also great.

I've shared the Oh No book with countless parents of toddlers. Too bad it seems to be out of print - I'm looking for it for my nephew.

5 of 5 stars  Awesome Neverending Story!!!

This book is the BEST! Each double page spread has a big picture full of things going on (a farm, a city street, a kitchen, a garden, a party, etc). Then around the edges it has individual pictures of most of the important parts of the picture (with the word below the picture). Even before our toddler could talk we could play "find the ___" in the picture. It REALLY helped his verbal skills.

The book helped us too because we could figure out what HE was calling things. At 10-14 months or so a horse was a nay-nay, crackers and cookies were frak-fraks, TV was ee-bee, etc. It was really fun watching him make the connection between the pictures in the book and real life. We would play the "find this item in our living room game" sometimes. I would point to the TV in the book and say "where is our TV?" and he would go point at it. Then the lamp, the door, the window, etc. Even though he could not say the words it was pretty clear that he understood them. He is three now (got the book at 10 months) and it is STILL his favorite book and he gets upset if we do not read and play with it each day. We were all surprised one day (at about 11 months) when he looked up at the TV and yelled "sheep!" when there was a flock on a TV commercial on the screen. We did not even know he knew that word. ;-)

I recommend this book to anybody with a toddler (on up). It is well worth the price! I think we have as much fun as he does! They make these books (the same pictures) in a bunch of different languages so this can be a fun gift for an older child too. You gotta get this book!

5 of 5 stars  A Must Have
Sunday, January 28, 2001
I purchased this book for my daughter of 5 months. I read to her all the time and chose this book to broaden her language capabilities. This book is excellent! It has pronunciations of each word listed in the back. Also, the pictures are well detailed with bright colors. I have found this book to be useful for myself and fiance. Since I was not raised speaking Spanish (and being Latina) the pronunciations make it easy for me to say the words appropriately. I find my whole family will enjoy this book!

5 of 5 stars  Endless possibilities for storytelling, finding objects, etc
Thursday, March 18, 1999
The scenarios in this book seem to go on and on..there's always a picture I didn't notice before. This is an excellent book for picking out individual objects from a busy scene, matching, storytelling. I like how it offers a lot of verbs and shows them in action instead of only nouns. The illustrations are fun, creative and lively. This is my 22 mo. old daughter's favorite book since the day she got it!
